Press Release: MMC Movies Focusses on Expanding Co-Productions

MMC Movies Köln GmbH is strengthening its position as an attractive co-production partner for feature films and high-end series with the feature film INSIDE, new financing models and the appointment of Peter Kreutz as line producer.

Recently, the international feature film INSIDE, which is being co-produced on the German side by Schiwago Film, Berlin, and MMC Movies, Cologne, was funded by the Film- und Medienstiftung NRW with 750,000 Euros. The international co-production partner is Heretic (GR). Vassilis Katsoupis’ art house thriller will be filmed for the most part at MMC Studios in Cologne, Germany, in 2020. The Director of Photography will be Thimios Bakatakis (THE KILLING OF A SACRED DEER).

Under the direction of managing directors Jens Wolf and Bastie Griese, MMC Movies will carry out many more active co-productions in the future, as Griese emphasizes: “The strategic focus of MMC Movies is clearly directed towards the expansion of co-production activities. INSIDE is a great starting point for this. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the Film- und Medienstiftung NRW for supporting this exciting project.

Further projects are already in the pipeline and the sustainable expansion of production activities will continue. This is partly due to new models of film financing, as Wolf underlines: “We have developed attractive, flexible financing models that substantially support our co-production partners and us in the implementation of projects. As the film production arm of MMC Studios and on the basis of our new shareholder structure, we have a whole range of interesting opportunities in this area. This enables us to finance up to 50% of a production”.

A fundamental component of the strategy is the strong and experienced fiction team. Neshe Demir acts as producer alongside the managing directors Wolf and Griese. Demir, a trained dramaturge, director and actress, co-produces INSIDE and other projects for MMC Movies.

In addition, MMC Movies has just been able to engage Peter Kreutz as line producer – a stroke of luck, as Bastie Griese notes: “We have gotten to know Peter Kreutz on various productions as an excellent producer, line producer and production manager. He has many years of experience and proven expertise in planning, financing and producing German and international films. We are very pleased that we could secure his services for MMC Movies”.

Peter Kreutz first studied at the ZELIG film school in Italy, before taking a degree in film production at the ‘Konrad Wolf’ University of Applied Sciences in Potsdam, Germany, in 1993. In 1994, he founded his own production company, with which he produced several films for cinema and television.

In addition, he supervised numerous national and international co-productions as line producer and production manager, such as 7500, BAGHDAD IN MY SHADOW, 55 STEPS, ROBBI, TOBBI UND DAS FLIWATÜT, and DAS TAGEBUCH DER ANNE FRANK.  Most recently, he was responsible for Visar Morina’s feature film EXILE as production manager. After its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival, EXILE will now be presented at the Berlinale in the Panorama section.

Jens Wolf, Bastie Griese, Peter Kreutz and Neshe Demir will be attending the Berlinale from 20 – 26 February 2020 to discuss upcoming film and series projects with potential partners.
