Currently director Joe Penna is shooting his new feature film ‘Stowaway‘ in Cologne. The story of the movie revolves around a mission to Mars that is placed in jeopardy, as the undiscovered stowaway (Shamier Anderson) unintentionally wreaks irreparable damage on the spaceship. Its crew (Anna Kendrick, Toni Collette, and Daniel Dae Kim) is in mortal danger…
Until July 24, exterior shots of the spaceship and numerous stunt scenes in simulated zero gravity will be filmed on MMC’s 26 m (85 ft.) tall soundstage 52.
‘Stowaway’ is Penna’s second feature, after ‘Arctic’, which premiered at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival. For this new international co-production, Penna once again teamed up with Ryan Morrison, who is serving as his co-writer and editor.
Germany’s augenschein Filmproduktion (Jonas Katzenstein and Maximilian Leo) and RISE PICTURES (Ulrich Schwarz) produce ‘Stowaway’ in co-production with USA’s XYZ Films (Aram Tertzakian and Nick Spicer) in collaboration with RainMaker Films (Clay Pecorin) and Yale Productions (both USA).
The elaborate VFX work will be done by RISE Visual Effects Studios. The project is funded by the Film- und Medienstiftung NRW, the FFF Bayern and the DFFF.
In 2020, Sony Pictures will be releasing the film worldwide while Wild Bunch will release it in Germany and France.
