The drama adventure series tells the story of a group of juvenile offenders who take refuge in the high Alps after a tragic incident during their resocialization project.
In the fight against the forces of nature and their own aggressions, they form a new society – according to their own laws.
Directed by Marcus Goller and Lennart Ruff, the eight-part series ‘Wild Republic’ starring Verena Altenberger, Franz Hartwig, Ulrich Tukur, and a cast of exciting young actors will be shot from February to July 2020.
First stop is Cologne where production designer Claus Rudolf Amler has designed a unique set that was built by the MMC Art Department on one of MMC’s largest soundstages. The impressive set shows the interior of a huge, barren cave – the hiding place for the young offenders.
Further scenes will be shot on location in Cologne and surrounding areas, followed by shooting in Bavaria and in the South Tyrolean Alps.
The series is produced by Lailaps Pictures GmbH, X Films Creative Pool and handwritten Pictures in co-production with Deutsche Telekom, ARTE, WDR, SWR and ONE. It is backed by Film- und Medienstiftung NRW, FFF Bayern, German Motion Picture Fund and IDM South Tyrol. Global distribution is handled by Beta Film.
The scripts were penned by Arne Nolting, Jan Martin Scharf and Klaus Wolfertstetter in collaboration with MagentaTV and the public television partners.
‘Wild Republic’ will celebrate its world premiere exclusively on Deutsche Telekom-owned streaming platform MagentaTV at the end of 2020.
One year later, the series will air on public channels ARTE and ARD. In addition, it will be available for streaming in the respective media libraries of the public broadcasters.
