On February 19, 2017, public Channel DAS ERSTE will present the German free TV premiere of Last Love starring Michael Caine, Clemence Poésy and Gillian Anderson. The interiors for the movie were shot at the MMC Studios.
Last Love tells the bittersweet story of the lonely American widower, Matthew Morgan (Michael Caine), who regains his vitality and interest in life in Paris after an unexpected encounter with a frank, pretty, and impulsive Frenchwoman. Both spend a short, but valuable period of time together, leaving their hearts touched and their lives changed.
Sandra Nettelbeck (known from Mostly Martha) directed this German-Belgian co-production and also adapted the novel by Françoise Dorner for the screenplay.
Sandra Nettelbeck had assembled an excellent cast for this movie. At Michael Caine’s side stood French star Clémence Poésy, the American actor Justin Kirk (known from Angels in America, Weeds and Life Happens), the American actress and four time Academy Award nominee Jane Alexander, the two time César Award winner Anne Alvaro, and Golden Globe winner Gillian Anderson, among others.
Last Love was produced by Bavaria Pictures, Kaminski.Stiehm.Film and Senator Film Produktion from Germany, in co-production with Scope Pictures (Belgium), and in association with Elzevir Films (France) and Sidney Kimmel Entertainment (US).
The movie was shot in Paris and Brittany (France), Brussels (Belgium), and the MMC Studios (Germany).
The film project was MMC’s guest for 10 weeks. Matthew Morgan’s Paris apartment, including a living room, bedroom, kitchen, bathroom, and a staircase with an elevator was built by the MMC Art Department on one of MMC’s soundstages. Altogether, two weeks of filming took place on this set.
The project (script development and production) received a 628,000 Euro (approx. USD 870,000) backing from the Film- und Medienstiftung NRW (Northrhine-Westphalia, Germany). Furthermore it was supported by Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg (Berlin-Brandenburg, Germany), Germany‘s Filmfoerderungsanstalt FFA, German Federal Film Fund (DFFF), the Belgian Tax Shelter Scheme, and the French Tax Rebate for International Production (T.R.I.P.).
