The new German Television Award in Düsseldorf - and MMC Studios in attendance

In January 2016, the outstanding achievements of the television year were once again honored with the German Television Award. For the first time, the award ceremony took place with a new concept as an industry get-together with an evening award dinner at the Rheinterrassen in Düsseldorf. MMC Studios was there as General Contractor for the Decoration construction, the Event technology and the technical production of the gala event responsible.

On January 13, an independent jury of eleven experts, chaired by TV-Spielfilm Editor-in-Chief Lutz Carstens, selected the winners in a total of 21 categories in the program fields of information, entertainment and fiction. In the evening, the prizes were presented at a festive awards dinner attended by 700 guests.

Among the award winners at the event, which was hosted by Barbara Schöneberger, were once again a number of productions from MMC Studios. Thus, "Joko vs. Klaas - The duel for the world"(producer: Florida TV & Endemol Shine Germany for ProSieben) won the award for best prime-time entertainment. In addition, "The lions' den"(producer: Sony Pictures for Vox) as best factual entertainment format.

The gala was also comprehensively supported by MMC in the areas of Equipment, Event technology as well as the technical production of the event. Other achievements included. Decoration construction, Rigging, lighting technology, Media and projection technology as well as a professional Sound system.

Nico Roden, Head of Sales at MMC Studios, on the production of the 2016 German Television Award in Düsseldorf:

"We are proud that MMC also accompanied the implementation of the 17th German Television Award alongside Kimmig Entertainment. MMC has once again shown that it is a considerable relief for event customers to obtain all technical services from one source with one contact person. In addition to an optimal price-performance ratio, we achieve the shortest communication channels in this way. It is very gratifying that the number of customers who place their trust in us as a general contractor is steadily growing."

For Roden, the German Television Awards is a very special event, which again this year held pleasant surprises in store:

"The German Television Award in particular is a project close to our hearts, because after all we have been accompanying the event as a service provider since the first award ceremony in 1999. We are of course particularly pleased that productions from MMC Studios were honored again this year with "Joko gegen Klaas" and "Die Höhle der Löwen.

Implementation:

The event design for the German Television Award focused consistently on the award winners, nominees and guests. For this reason, lighting technology was not used for large show effects. Only in the stage area were accents set with a few Clay Paky Mythos spotlights. The very reduced and unobtrusive design created by this equipment underlined the solemn setting of the event.

Jerry Appelt's lighting design for the hall was based on several straight truss sections whose position was dictated by the suspension points of the Rhine Terraces to be realized. In addition to a few Vari Light VL 1000s, the trusses were equipped exclusively with GLP Impression X4Ls.

The sound system consisted of decentralized systems from the company L'Acoustics, which covered the room. The acoustic center was the middle of the hall, as the main moderation position was located there. In addition, there were two Kara Line arrays to the right and left of the stage, each with seven elements, which ensured localization for the stage actions. The decentralized systems were integrated via a delayable matrix of a Yamaha DME 64.

A Yamaha CL5 with Dante interconnect was used as the FOH console. All ancillary areas were connected bidirectionally, so that the gala could also be broadcast to the ancillary areas of the venue.

The stage and decoration construction for the event in the different halls and areas of the Rheinterrasse was realized by MMC Ausstattung according to a stage design by Jürgen Hassler.

These included a red carpet area outside with a 30-meter canopy, a red carpet area in the Silver Room and the Yellow Salon with press walls and a press podium, a separate press center in the Yellow Salon, and an area for accreditation and the checkroom in the Elector's Room.

Furthermore, the Rheingoldsaal, which served as a lounge area before the awards ceremony and as a party area afterwards, was equipped with furniture and paneling. In addition, the East Foyer was equipped with a DJ booth platform and lounge furniture and turned into a dance area.

Finally, the Radschlägersaal, the location of the award dinner and the subsequent presentation of the German Television Award, was equipped with large projection screens on the 4 hall walls by MMC Ausstattung. Furthermore, various coverings were installed in the hall and on the stage as well as the large white staircase in front of the stage of the German Television Award 2016.

On the part of MMC Studios, the production was supervised by Anika Pech and Dirk Raddatz was in charge of the equipment on site for this event.

The German Television Award has been presented by ARD, RTL, SAT.1 and ZDF since 1999 to honor outstanding achievements for television. This year, RTL was in charge of the industry event.
