MMC: International film production in new Color Grading Theatre

Successful premiere for the largest Color Grading Theatre in North Rhine-Westphalia: In December, the producers of "The Operative" became the first film team to use the new studio "The Suite" for digital color grading of their spy thriller.

Through the ten meter wide screen and the state-of-the-art projection and sound technology filmmakers can make particularly precise color corrections. The offer is well received: Bookings have already been received from several film productions for the first half of 2019. MMC Studios developed "The Suite" together with the renowned post-production service provider "WeFadeToGrey" developed.

The new color grading studio "The Suite" offers producers state-of-the-art high-end technology for post-production of film productions. The studio was designed as a cinema, which has a 40 square meter big screen, 4K projection technology, Dolby Atmos sound and a separate lounge area disposes

"'The Suite' covers a wide range of requirements for our customers, whether they are post-process fictional projects or use them for Screenings want to use," says Bastie Griese, Head of Filmproduction at MMC Studios Cologne. "In North Rhine-Westphalia, such a Grading Theatre unique and there are few other comparable offerings."

For digital color correction, the latest versions of the grading systems "Baselight" and "Resolve" is available: "Color correction on such a large screen enables very precise and fatigue-free work. You can hardly depict more reality," adds Swen Linde, Managing Director of WeFadeToGrey, strategic partner of MMC Studios GmbH. "Here, film crews not only see what awaits the viewer in the cinema at the end, they also hear it: we have installed the new Dolby Atmos system, which can only be found in state-of-the-art cinemas."

The Suite" further expands the range of services offered at MMC Studios. Those shooting in Cologne can then quickly and easily transfer the material to the Color Grading Suite. "This makes the production process much easier," adds Philip Borbély, Managing Director of MMC Studios. "Efficient workflows not only save time, but above all production costs." Good reasons for the makers of "The Operative" to move the color grading of their international spy thriller to MMC Studios. The team around award-winning director Yuval Adler had already filmed in the summer at the Cologne studios, among others.

The current booking figures show that the offer is well received. The studio is already booked for the first half of 2019 for several major film and series productions reserved. "The industry has been eagerly awaiting the opening of 'The Suite', as the conditions are ideal for post-production," adds Borbély. "We are delighted that the federal state with the largest film subsidy in Germany now has such a facility. After all, the new color grading studio makes the media state of NRW and the production location of Cologne even more attractive."
