On May 23, "The Traitor" premieres in competition at the Cannes Film Festival

Marco Bellocchio's "The traitor", which among other things is used in the MMC Studios was shot, is shown on May 23 its premiere in competition at the Festival de Cannes celebrate

The traitor"("Il Traditore", "The Traitor") with Pierfrancesco Favino starring is a biopic about Tommaso "Don Masino" Buscetta, the first high-ranking Italian Mafia boss to break the Sicilian Mafia's oath of silence. His testimony helped convict hundreds of members of the Sicilian Cosa Nostra in Italy and the U.S. during the so-called Maxi Trials in the 1980s.

The screenplay was written by Marco Bellochio together with Ludovica Rampoldi, Valia Santella, Francesco Piccolo and Francesco La Licata. Filming took place at the MMC Studio 51 and in Cologne.

The film is a production of Cologne-based Match Factory Productions. The executive producers are Kavac (I) and IBC Movie (I), other producers are Ad Vitam Production (F), Gullane Entretenimento (BRA), with broadcaster participation from ZDF and Arte.

Pandora is distributing the film, and The Match Factory is handling world sales.

At May 23, 2019 the film also opens in the Italian cinemas.
