largest public charging park for electric mobility in Cologne

In the future, 37 charging stations with 74 charging points will be available at the Coloneum for employees, tenants, visitors to TV shows and studio tours, as well as the general public

Cologne, March 02, 2022. MMC Film and TV Studios is investing in the infrastructure around the Coloneum: the largest public charging park for electric mobility in the entire Cologne urban area is being built on the MMC site in Cologne-Ossendorf. Most of the 37 charging columns with a total of 74 charging points will not only be accessible to MMC employees, tenants and visitors, but will also be available for public use. The work is scheduled to be completed by the end of March. There are currently around 1,000 publicly accessible charging points in Cologne, and MMC will in future provide over 7% of the public charging infrastructure in the cathedral city.

Sustainable, climate-friendly added value for employees, tenants and visitors

"As one of the largest studio operators in Europe, the topics of sustainability and climate protection are very important to us. That's why we are all the more pleased that we can do our part for the traffic turnaround here with the investment in the charging infrastructure. Electric mobility is the future and we are creating optimal conditions here for our employees, tenants and visitors," says Ilya Piontek, Managing Director and CFO of MMC Studios. "With this investment, we are meeting the steadily increasing demand for charging options - not least due to our own electric and hybrid vehicle fleet - and are thus fulfilling a major wish of the media industry based at our company. In addition, we are offering real added value to the audience of the shows as well as to visitors to our studio tours who are interested in film and media and who value our studios as a popular place to visit."

TankE GmbH is implementation partner for the charging columns

The implementation partner for the construction of the charging columns is the company TankE, a subsidiary of RheinEnergie specializing in electric mobility. "The cooperation with MMC goes hand in hand. Together with the studio operator, we analyzed the parking situation of most of the potential users of the charging points and then decided to build AC charging points. Most users spend a longer stay on the MMC premises and can thus conveniently charge their cars on the side," says TankE Managing Director Michael Krystof. "We focused on state-of-the-art technology and maximum user-friendliness during construction. At our charging stations, you are not tied to any provider or payment service provider. All you need is a smartphone to scan the QR code and a credit card - and you can start charging."
