On April 19, 2018, the MMC Movies co-production ELEANOR & COLETTE celebrated its European premiere in Essen in the presence of director Bille August and leading actress Helena Bonham Carter.
Long before admission, hundreds of fans waited outside the sold-out Lichtburg cinema to see the Hollywood stars up close. After the film, the enthusiastic audience gave Standing ovation for the film and the performance of Helena Bonham Carter.
May 3, 2018 all other film fans can also experience this extraordinary production on the big screen, because then Warner Bros. Pictures Germany brings ELEANOR & COLETTE to cinemas across Germany.
In ELEANOR & COLETTE tells Director Bille August based on a true incident, tells the story of the very special friendship of two completely different women and their common fight for justice. Two women who stand up for what should be a matter of course for everyone - self-determination and humanity - and who in doing so show in a way that is as stirring as it is inspiring what strength can develop when one stands up for one's own convictions.

Eleanor Riese (Helena Bonham Carter) suffers from paranoid schizophrenia and knows that she can only lead an independent life with medication. However, because of severe side effects, she demands to have a say in her medication. When her doctors refuse to let her do so, Eleanor hires lawyer Colette Hughes (Hilary Swank). In a virtually hopeless case, the two stand up to an overpowering establishment of the pharmaceutical industry and doctors, but manage to take their case all the way to the Supreme Court.
A common fight for justice, with which the eccentric as well as lovable Eleanor turns the life of the dogged Colette upside down, and which ultimately makes her more than just a client: They become friends who support each other, learn from each other and change each other's lives ...

ELEANOR & COLETTE was shot almost entirely in North Rhine-Westphalia. From 35 shooting days five were found in San Francisco, one in Portugal and 29 in Cologne and surroundings held. The shooting in the MMC Studios, where Eleanor's apartment was MMC Equipment at Studio 33 had been built, lasted twelve days. Many exterior shots, which show San Francisco in the 80s in the film, were also shot in Cologne and the surrounding area. Various interior shots, such as that of the courthouse, were also shot in the media metropolis on the Rhine.
